Kumamoto Prefecture’s World Heritage Site
There are two World Heritage Sites in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Kusakabeyoshimi Shrine is counted as one of the three major down shrines.
Located in Takamori Town, Aso District.
The down shrine is a shrine where the main shrine is located down the road.
“Crossing Yatake” faces the Kirishima mountain range and Sakurajima near the Yatake Pass on the JR Kyushu / Hisatsu Line.

The “Kumagawa River” is one of the three major rapids and is designated as one of the 25 most scenic spots in Japan.
It is the largest river in Kumamoto prefecture and is located in the Yatsushiro plain from the Hitoyoshi basin.
“Mt. Aso” is also designated as one of the 25 most scenic spots in Japan.
Mt. Aso is composed of 5 mountains “AsoGotake” (the highest peaks of Takadake, Nekodake, Nakadake, Eboshidake, and Kishimadake) and Mt. Gairinzan.

“Shiratsuruhama / Myokengahama” and “the Christian village Sakitsu” are located in Amakusa City.
The “Ariake Sea / Sand Flats” with large tidal range are located in the Ariake Sea.
The Okoshiki coast is popular tourist destination with beautiful sunsets and sand crests created by the tidal range.
For the 100 best waterfalls in Japan, Yonjusanmantaki waterfalls (Kikuchi City), Kanome Falls (Hitoyoshi City), Sugarugataki Falls (Minamiaso Village), and Sendan Todoro Falls (Yatsushiro City) were selected.
Kumamoto Castle (Kumamoto City) and Hitoyoshi Castle (Hitoyoshi City) have been selected as the 100 Famous Castles in Japan, and Kikuchi Castle (Yamaga City) and Yatsushiro Castle (Yatsushiro City) have been selected as the Continued Top 100 Japanese Castles.
