Saga Prefecture’s World Heritage Site

There is one World Heritage Site in Saga Prefecture.

It is the “Mietsu Naval Dock Site” of the Saga Domain, which is a constituent site of “Meiji Japan’s Industrial Revolutionary Heritage Steelmaking / Steelmaking, Shipbuilding, and Coal Industry” scattered in eight prefectures nationwide.

It is said to be the source of modernization of Japan, and there is the oldest surviving dry dock remains.

A guidance corner is set up at the adjacent Sano Tsunetami Memorial Hall.

Yutoku Inari Shrine” in Kashima City is one of the three major Inari Shrines.

Yoshinogari Ruins” are large-scale ruins of the Yayoi period located in Kanzaki City and Yoshinogari Town.
It is a special historic site.

 

“Nagoya Castle Ruins Nanjin Ruins” (located at Cape Hado on the Higashimatsuura Peninsula) is the ruins of a castle built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi when he sent troops to the Korean Peninsula about 400 years ago.

The “Kii Castle Ruins” on Mt.Kizan, which is 405 meters above sea level, is the ruins of Japan’s oldest mountain castle built in 665.

It remains in the Nihon Shoki (history book) as a facility for the defense of Dazaifu.

Both Nagoya Castle and Kii Castle Ruins are special historic sites.

Saga Prefecture’s Ancient shrines and temples, famous temples and hot springs

“Yutoku Inari Shrine” was built in 1687. The bright vermilion buildings are all lacquered and are also known as “Chinzei Nikko”.

“Ureshino Onsen” is famous as one of Japan’s three famous beautiful skin hot springs.

Takeo Onsen, which is a hot spring resort that represents Saga along with Ureshino Onsen, has a history of more than 1000 years.

Nanatsugama,(in the northernmost part of Saga Prefecture) is the seven caves of the sea.
