Nara Prefecture’s World Heritage Site

There are three World Heritage Sites in Nara Prefecture.

Nara Prefecture has been built as a cultural and political center since ancient times and still has many historical heritage.

“Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range”, “Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara” and “Buddhist Monuments in the Horyuji Area” are registered as World Heritage Sites.

“Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara” is an important heritage that conveys the transition of Japanese diplomatic relations and culture.
It consists of eight assets such as Todaiji Temple, which is famous for the DAIBUTSU.

“Buddhist monuments in the Horyuji area” is a World Heritage Site registered for the first time in Japan along with Himeji Castle.
Horyuji Temple is known as the oldest existing wooden structure in the world.

Kasugayama Primeval Forest” is designated as a special natural monument in Nara Prefecture.

Nara Prefecture, which has many mountainous areas, has four waterfalls that have been selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan.

Sasa no taki waterfall (Totsukawa village) is a waterfall with a head of 32m, and the water in the Tanigawa valley flowing from here is selected as one of the “Yamato water”.

Takatori Castle (Takatori Town), which has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles, was a mountain castle built on the summit of Mt. Takatori and is now a castle ruin.
